The Star Tribune called Larry “a troubadour for social justice”:

Larry with Pete Seeger, 2014

For 40 years, Long has sung at protests, festivals, union actions and political rallies around Minnesota, the nation and the world. He writes and, in his lilting voice, sings in the social justice tradition of Pete Seeger, whom he knew for decades until Seeger’s death in January. He hews to Seeger’s belief that everyone has “a sacred obligation to do their best at what they’re called upon to do.”

Long was also a very close friend to Minnesota Senator Paul Wellstone, who died in a plane crash in 2002. Long composed Wellstone’s campaign songs and sang one of his original compositions at the funeral.

Larry and Kris Kristofferson

Now a Smithsonian Folkways recording artist, Long has sung at major concerts and festivals throughout the United States and world, including Awesome Africa Festival (South Africa), Winnipeg Folk Festival (Canada), at the Hollywood Bowl with Kris Kristofferson, and at Madison Square Garden with Joan Baez, Bruce Springsteen and many others for Pete Seeger’s 90th Birthday Celebration. Larry is presently producing and performing with American Roots Revue which celebrates America’s richest musical traditions of gospel, folk, blues, and R&B.
