You are invited to the LPC Annual Meeting on August 28, 2022

Joni’s Beach

Please join the La Pointe Center for the Arts Board for our annual meeting which will be held Joni’s Beach. This year we will be having a picnic.

Thank you to all our members who support LPC. Our by-laws state that every year we must have a membership meeting to inform our members of our finances and other business plans and to vote on the new Board of Directors. We need a quorum of 15 members to vote. Your meeting participation is much needed and greatly appreciated.

If you are not a member of LPC yet, please consider becoming a part of this great Island organization. You can support so many Island arts and artists that make this a great place.

We will have a short business meeting followed by presentations from our affiliate organizations and the winners of our 2021/2022 grant awards.

Artfully yours, The LPC Board of Directors: Peg Bertel (chair), Micaela Montagne (treasurer), Cynthia Mueller (secretary), Peggy Ross (Regranting Committee chair), Rae Lesmeister, Ava Love, Ken Myhre, and John Erste

FREE Concert Tonight! Tribute to Ric Gillman with the CharterKats

Thursday, August 11, 6 PM – ??
Harry Nelson Rec Center

Bring a chair, your dancing shoes, some grub or get a brat from Charlie, and settle in as the Island pays tribute to our beloved Ric Gillman. As CharterKat Jeff V put it:

We’ve made a lot of music for a lot of years for a lot of reasons … but I’m not sure the motivation was ever so pure as with the CharterKats… It was never for money unless we gave it away. Never to play hot licks, though I think we did on occasion. Never for the party (much). Not for the chicks, we were already too old & ugly even then 🤣 … it was only and always about making fun music with fun people for fun people! … After 7 or 8 lost years, we’re back, albeit one Kat short 😞 … I’m not sure it’s like riding a bike, but come and decide for yourself if you can: Madeline Island this Thursday 6pm till ? … And tip a few for Captain Ric, he was our captain… and he still is…👣🎶💕

Announcing the Public Art Map of Madeline Island

TOWN OF LA POINTE PUBLIC ARTS COMMITTEE ANNOUNCES THE PUBLICATION OF
THE PUBLIC ART MAP OF MADELINE ISLAND

July 13, 2020

OUR MISSION STATEMENT

The Town of La Pointe Public Arts Committee believes that public art—art that is freely accessible to all—can humanize, beautify, and invigorate our public spaces. Our committee strives to increase the cultural, social, and economic value of La Pointe by working to install art that reflects the uniqueness and diversity of our community.

The Public Art Committee was excited to discover we had a lot of interesting and beautiful art on Madeline. We decided to share what we found with the public and hired Barbara With to create a “Public Art Map of Madeline Island” with Google Maps. Each pin on the map represents a place where the public can enjoy a piece of art created by a local artist. It is separated into three areas of the island.

The downtown area is organized to be a walking tour, beginning at the LPC Art Car and ending at Island Carvers. The rest of the pieces are located at the State and Town Park and also in various locations outside of town.

Thank you to the many people who have contributed to the creation of this map. Not just the making of the art, but to the artists who provided the stories about the pieces in various places around town. Island history and local lore is included for more entertainment! Click on the legend on the left to see where each pin leads. Then click on the photos to see them all.
