The La Pointe Center for the Arts (LPC) has kicked off the summer season with a successful Silent Auction Fundraiser and Wine Tasting! We saw over 200 guests, received 150 donated items, and raised over $24,000. These funds will continue to support artists and creative endeavors in this community!
Items at this year’s auction included a variety of local handmade art works, gift cards to local shops and vendors, unique recreational experiences, and more. It takes a village to coordinate a successful fundraiser and thanks to our fabulous board members, donors, patrons, and friends of LPC, this event was a perfect show of the island’s strength and creativity.
Contributions from this event as well as member donations and grant awards from Wisconsin Arts Board, go to support the La Pointe Center’s work. That work includes Positivity Children’s Theater, producing our free summer concert series, numerous art exhibits at the La Pointe Center for the Arts Gallery, and funding our Regranting program.
Last year, LPC awarded several grants that supported painters, ceramicists, filmmakers, and puppet-makers. Their work reverberated in the community through art demonstrations, classes, and even in last summer’s 4th of July parade. It’s hard to forget Becky Wygonik’s larger than life paper mâché puppets parading down Main St! We look forward to seeing the work from our grant recipients this summer.
Following tradition, this summer will have no shortage of LPC sponsored events and entertainment. There are currently 10 free concerts scheduled at the mobile stage at the Harry Nelson Rec Center featuring new bands, past favorites, and island locals. Bring a chair, bring a friend, and don’t miss out on these lively concerts.
Stay active with your summer reading by joining the Madeline Island Book Club whose support from LPC enriches the reading experience by watching titular movies and bringing in authors for book discussions.
Returning to the stagemobile for its 31st season is Positivity Children’s Theatre. This program is supported in part by grant awards from Boreal Waters Community Foundation (formerly named the Duluth Superior Area Community Fund). The La Pointe Center for the Arts is lucky to have partnered for many years with these foundations. Positivity Children’s Theatre is a two-week program that has enriched island kids for many years under the direction of Julie Stryker. The program concludes with a weekend of live performances in August.
With seven exhibitions rotating through the gallery this summer, there are many opportunities to see works from the region and chances to meet contributing artisans at gallery hosted receptions. For a full list of our programming and event schedule, visit our online calendar.
Without our members, donors, and community at large, The La Pointe Center for the Arts would not exist. From the board members and staff of LPC, we thank each of you who participate in our programming for your generous support and spirit. We are grateful to serve such a vibrant community here on Madeline Island!
