Make Music June 21

Make Music Day 2024

April 8, 2024

Performed by anyone! Free for everyone!

It all started in 1982, 41 years ago in France. Jack Lang and the Ministry of Culture staff brainstormed the idea of a musical holiday … a day of free music EVERYWHERE! A music event in which anyone and everyone would be invited to participate either by performing or hosting. The event was scheduled to take place on June 21st, the summer solstice and it they called it Fête de la Musique, meaning “festival of music” and “make music.”

The event has turned into a true national holiday in France in which the country shuts down on the summer solstice and music is heard all around. The event has now spread around the world and is celebrated in more than 120 different countries and over 1000 cities. In 2023, Wisconsin led the nation with the largest numbers of communities participating!

This year, LPC and the La Pointe community are excited to be a part of it. Madeline Island will be joining the celebration on June 21st with musical performances and activities throughout the day.

A committee is planning the day’s events and is looking for individuals and groups who would like to share their love for music with the community. Maybe you’d like to perform, be it singing, playing an instrument, dancing, doing a musical demonstration, or conducting a workshop. You don’t need to be a professional to participate, all you need is a love of music and the desire to share it with others.
