New LPC Artist in Residence Program

Dear friends of the La Pointe Center for the Arts,

We have an exciting new program we want to share with you, our 2023 Artist in Residence Program. Made possible by the generous support of our members, the first Residence will begin May 1, 2023 and run for three weeks.

We encourage all eligible artists to consider applying or pass this along to any artists you think would benefit from this unique opportunity. 

The deadline for applications is January 1, 2023. We are excited to be able to offer this exciting chance for artists to develop their work, inspired by this extraordinary place we all love.

Life on the Water Dugout Canoe Project – “Gitchigaming Manidowid”

The name of the dugout means “In The Spirit of Lake Superior”

Chief Dugout Engineers: Frank Sprague and Keven Finney

Island Managers and Assistance: Marty Curry, Mike Caswell and Johnny Ruff.

Project Oversight: Paul DeMain

This project is supported in part with assistance from the La Pointe Center for the Arts, which receives support from local donations and the Wisconsin Arts Board, the non-profit organizations Honor The Earth, Aking and Native American Educational Technologies., (NAET) with assistance from local islanders, appreciation to the Madeline Island Ferry Company, Captain Mac’s Fish Tacos, Marina, the Bad River Ojibwe Band, Tom’s Burned Down Café, lots of coffee from the Mission Hill Coffee Shop and many small donations, and assistance provided by local businesses, and the 200+ people who have put their hands on the cutting, transportation, setting up, carving, finishing and chatting over the specifics of how to do something, and why. Indigenous Art Show opens today at LPC Gallery

Indigenous Art Show opens today, featuring the works of Frank Montano, Carol DeMain, Dennis and Cleo White, Roberta DeCora, Martin Curry, Beth Paap, and other local Native artists. The feature is the dugout canoe, on display outside the Gallery.

You are invited to the LPC Annual Meeting on August 28, 2022

Joni’s Beach
4 PM – 6 PM

Please join the La Pointe Center for the Arts Board for our annual meeting which will be held Joni’s Beach. This year we will be having a picnic.

Thank you to all our members who support LPC. Our by-laws state that every year we must have a membership meeting to inform our members of our finances and other business plans and to vote on the new Board of Directors. We need a quorum of 15 members to vote. Your meeting participation is much needed and greatly appreciated.

If you are not a member of LPC yet, please consider becoming a part of this great Island organization. You can support so many Island arts and artists that make this a great place.

We will have a short business meeting followed by presentations from our affiliate organizations and the winners of our 2021/2022 grant awards.

Positivity Children’s Theatre debuts on the StageMobile

For the first time in the history of Positivity Children’s Theatre and the La Pointe Center for the Arts StageMobile, Positivity has taken over the StageMobile for two weeks to write, create and product this year’s production. The StageMobile has been used for the Performance Arts Affiliate FREE Summer Concert Series. Holding the Positivity program at the Stagemobile is a marvelous expansion of purpose.

Friday, August 19, 7 PM
Saturday and Sunday, August 20-21, 2 PM

We have limited seating, so bring a chair.
In case of rain, we will wing it.

Positivity Children’s Theatre Reschedule!

Positivity Children’s Theatre has been reschedule. Performances are now:

Saturday and Sunday, August 20-21, 2 PM

Taking place at the Harry Nelson Rec Center on the LPC Stagemobile.

Positivity has in the past presented performances at the La Pointe School where tickets have been $10. This year, we are utilizing the Stagemobile. It’s a great use of the stage and should be a fantastic show.
