OUR MISSION STATEMENT
The Town of La Pointe Public Arts Committee believes that public art—art that is freely accessible to all—can humanize, beautify, and invigorate our public spaces. Our committee strives to increase the cultural, social, and economic value of La Pointe by working to install art that reflects the uniqueness and diversity of our community.
The Public Art Committee was excited to discover we had a lot of interesting and beautiful art on Madeline. We decided to share what we found with the public and hired Barbara With to create a “Public Art Map of Madeline Island” with Google Maps. Each pin on the map represents a place where the public can enjoy a piece of art created by a local artist. It is separated into three areas of the island.
The downtown area is organized to be a walking tour, beginning at the LPC Art Car and ending at Island Carvers. The rest of the pieces are located at the State and Town Park and also in various locations outside of town.
Thank you to the many people who have contributed to the creation of this map. Not just the making of the art, but to the artists who provided the stories about the pieces in various places around town. Island history and local lore is included for more entertainment! Click on the legend on the left to see where each pin leads. Then click on the photos to see them all.
