LPC Art Gallery Announces New Shopping Experience

The La Pointe Center Art Gallery introduces a new Covid-19 friendly way to shop for Local Art. Available to All Madeline Island residents:

Shopping with Art Major

We are currently open Wednesday through Saturday 11:00am to 4:00pm. Please wash your hands and come by with your mask on and Support Local Art.

If you are in a high-risk group and want to Support Local Art, consider shopping with Art Major. He will open the Gallery for you (and up to three friends) for a private lower risk shopping experience on days when the Gallery is not open.  He can show you the gallery items with Facetime if you are quarantined or if you chose to stay home this year.

Consider a donation to one of our artists or purchase a La Pointe Center Art Guild and Gallery Gift Certificate.

The La Pointe Center Art Gallery will be opening Monday, June 15, 2020, 11 AM – 5 PM
Then Wednesdays through Saturdays 11 AM – 5 PM

There will be no artists receptions this season. Five person limit inside the Gallery.

MASK ARE REQUIRED. LPC Art Gallery will not have masks for sale. Please bring your own.

LPC Annual Winetasting Postponement

Dear La Pointe Center Members,

As you know by now, La Pointe Center has determined that in order to ensure community safety, the annual Wine Tasting and Silent Auction Fundraiser scheduled for May 24 is on hold because of COVID-19.
 
Our Annual Wine Tasting is not just the opening of the Island’s summer season. It is the cornerstone of our yearly fundraising. We are asking our members to consider what they would have spent at the event and redirecting some of that to LPC as a donation. It would go a long way right now under these very trying circumstances.

LPC Response to COVID-19

Dear Friends of the LaPointe Center for the Arts,

We at LPC hope this message finds you and your loved ones feeling healthy and supported during these unprecedented times. This message is to update you on our response to the COVID-19 pandemic and how it impacts our work in the community.

We remain committed to our mission of “bringing beauty and culture to Madeline Island by promoting, exhibiting, educating and selling the work of artists.” In light of this extraordinary time, we want to thank the Wisconsin Arts Board, who has awarded our funding request for the 2020 Regranting Program. Additionally, they have given us the ability to expand granting guidelines to assist struggling artists during the pandemic.

To ensure community safety, the annual Wine Tasting and Silent Auction scheduled for May 29 is on hold, as are Positivity Children’s Theatre and the Summer Concert Series. Our Regranting Program, however, still has deadlines of May 31 and October 31. Email lapointecenter@gmail.com or down-load an application at https://lapointecenter.org/grants-for-the-arts-program/.

We as a Board are in the process of determining how we will adapt to this unknown future. Given the proceeds from the Wine Tasting make up a substantial portion of our budget, your membership and donations are needed more than ever by the Madeline Island artists that we give to regularly. Your new or renewed membership will help us continue to support them in what are frightening and uncertain times for those with few resources.

Winter Theater on Madeline Island

Thanks to a generous grant from the La Pointe Center and Wisconsin Arts Board, we are holding a STAGED READING of an original island music melodrama THE LAST VOYAGEUR! Written by Philip Valle, the same author of ONE BAD APPLE, this is the hilarious story of Aphrodite and Apollo coming down to a tiny island in Lake Superior in winter, complete with greek gods, birds, scientists and realtors, a eunuch named Reggie, lots of crazy hijinx, originals songs by Barbara With and of course, the last voyageur! Show at 7 PM with a cast a tens! Be there or be square! Dessert and coffee afterward

Donations needed for LPC Wine Tasting Silent Auction

The 25th Annual  LPC Wine Tasting Gala and FUNdraiser is coming up fast: Sunday, May 26 at The Pub Restaurant and Wine Bar. Through the years, Islanders have looked forward to the opening of the high season, when we can mingle with returning Summer folks and early tourists after the long winter.

Once again we will rely on the generous nature of our members and neighbors to contribute something to the Silent Auction. We’re looking for art, music, books, gadgets, tools, donations of services, and even slightly used but still worthwhile memorabilia and objet d’art.

If you don’t know what what to donate, consider commissioning a local artist to create a special work of art, or purchase a piece by your favorite Island artist from one of the several island galleries. Other great ideas are gift certificates from local eateries and specialties stores, sports tickets, or consider donating some of your Madeline Island memorabilia—photos, artwork, or anything else that Island aficionados would appreciate! Know that proceeds from the sale of your donation will go to supporting Island art and artists, as we have for over 30 years.

Donations are still needed for our Silent Auction. They can be dropped off Monday and Tuesday from May 20 – 21, 10 AM – 2 PM in the basement of St. John’s Church, and Wednesday through Friday, May 22 – 24 at the Lightkeeper’s Lodge next to the Inn .
