Yasmine & Beat Zero Are Back!

May 12, 2024

Yazmin & Beat Zero are back by popular demand to the La Pointe Center for the Arts, this time featuring special guest vocalist Prudence Johnson. You will be swept away by a riveting fusion of Latin-Funk and Folk/Rock, weaving between both English and Spanish with ease and inviting listeners to cross between worlds with each note.

Yazmin, who currently resides in New Orleans, LA, was born and raised in Washburn, WI. Both of her parents were original members of the Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua and she grew up surrounded by music, following in their footsteps by the time she could walk.

Yazmin

At age 12 after attending a concert by a Cuban-jazz group, she instantly fell in love with Afro-Cuban jazz and dedicated herself to a life-long immersion in Cuban culture. Her original music draws inspiration from these Caribbean influences as well as the likes of Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder and Queen, a melting pot of ingredients!

” …She was incredible. I sat out on the porch, up the hill a little bit, and I was transported to another place. How brilliant is she? She is absolutely fantastic. What a voice, what a keyboard player, just absolutely extraordinary!”

-Nanci Griffith

Singer- Songwriter

This summer she’s on tour across the Midwest with her trio Beat Zero. Their show features Yazmin’s powerful keyboard playing and soaring vocals as well as the talents of her world-class band: Grammy-nominated Álvaro Benavides from New York City on bass and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Gillespie from Minneapolis, MN on drums.

Prudence Johnson, a renowned vocalist in the Minneapolis music scene, will add her rich harmonies and lead vocals to the mix. Prudence’s long and happy career as a singer, writer, and teacher has landed her on the musical theatre stage, in two feature films, (A River Runs Through It, A Prairie Home Companion) national radio, (several long stints on A Prairie Home Companion) and on concert stages across North America and occasionally Europe.

Along with Yazmin’s original songs, they will also interpret familiar classics with their own twist.

Get ready for a journey you will not forget. You may be equally called to dance or to shed a tear before the night is over. The concert is Thursday, July 25 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Madeline Island Rec Center. You won’t want to miss it!
